Choosing the Right Topic for Your Biology Extended Essay

If you are assigned to write biology extended essay, the first thing that you would do is to choose a topic. Why? It is because you effectively could not proceed to the other phases of the essay writing process if you do not have something to serve as the centre of the discussion. Likewise, the topic influences all the other phases of the essay writing process, dictating the possible actions that the student should take in order to successfully create the composition. So, how should you choose the right topic for your biology essays?

There are some factors to consider when choosing a topic for your biology essay. Some students have made the mistake of solely choosing a topic based on its difficulty. They select such topics as they believe that they might be able to impress their academic tutors if they choose a difficult topic. That could be true. However, that is not entirely true. Yes, academic tutors could be impressed if you choose a topic that presents a difficult challenge, only if you managed to hurdle all the complications and managed to elegantly discuss what is needed to be discussed. Choosing a difficult topic presents a big risk – if you cannot discuss your subject very well, you could be bound to receive low marks or even worse, a failing grade.

You, however, are not discouraged to choose difficult topic. However, you are just being cautioned about choosing a topic which difficulty is beyond your limits. You may not possess enough knowledge or writing skills to tackle such topic. You may also be limited by the lack of information sources.

Aside from the difficulty of the topic, you should also consider its relevance and timeliness. You might have chosen a topic that is within your limits, but it is futile to write about that topic if it is not relevant to your subject or course. For instance, if you are tasked to write about biology extended essay topics, you should not select a topic that is more relevant to math. More specifically, you should choose a topic that is timely, aside from being relevant. Your essay topic should be relevant to your recent, present and even future lessons, whichever of them is applicable.

When choosing an essay topic, you should also consider your own interest. If you are writing about a topic that interests you, it is high likely that you already have some knowledge about it and would be more than willing to exert effort just to be able to discuss it well.

Choosing a suitable topic for your biology extended essays might be difficult, but you could pick the right one if you carefully consider the factors discussed above.
