       Art essays discuss art as an important part of life that allows people to express their feelings and emotions by committing them to canvas in the case of painting or other artistic forms. Art essays highlight the essence and importance of art in human life. However, we should also take into consideration that appreciating art is relative. Each one can present a different perspective in writing an art essay. One perspective of an art essay is by analysing the historical context of a work of art through an art history essay. Art history essays require the writer to be able to translate visual information into verbal ideas. ·         Formal Analysis. This requires students to discuss about the formal parts of a work of art. The discussion will center on an interesting or fresh way of seeing or understanding the work in question.

·         Sociological Essay. The discussion examines a particular historical era and how this period influenced an artist or his work. It can also address general issues on the relationship between art and society.

·         Biographical Essay. This type of art history essay discusses significant events of an artist's life and how these are relevant to the work of art that he or she produced.

·         Iconography. This requires students to identify images by exploring the symbols in a work of art.
